Gamescom is the world’s biggest consumer gaming show, and every year the Kalypso team spends weeks preparing for the event. This year the show ran from Tuesday 22nd to Saturday 26th August, and we were looking forward to showing off our lineup with hands-on stations set up for Tropico 6, Dungeons 3, Railway Empire and Shadows: Awakening.
Setting up the booth
The Saturday before the show, part of the team went ahead to Cologne to prepare our booth. PC towers, PlayStations, screens, keyboards, mice and headsets for 45 stations had to be unpacked and set up, as well as installing and testing the games themselves.
Just in time for the start of the show, everything was just where it was supposed to be, ready for the first lucky gamers to start playing. This year we were especially proud of our #ElPrezYourself photo booth and some amazing illuminated El Presidente banners watching over from above.
The work we did obviously paid off, as we were soon nominated for the ‘Best Booth’ Award, and also received a ‘favourite’ award from Arrcade.de for Railway Empire on the first day of the show!
The show: Visitors and Games
When the show opened to trade visitors and press on Tuesday we were thrilled to finally be able to show everyone the projects we’ve been working on with our talented developers for the last few months.
Over the course of the show, countless gamers joined us to visit the stunning new archipelagos of Tropico 6 and the Dungeon Lord’s latest evilfication campaign in Dungeons 3, or to lay the first tracks as an aspiring railroad tycoon in Railway Empire and devour the unsuspecting souls of the Heretic Kingdoms in Shadows: Awakening.
From everyone here at Kalypso Media and our developers, we’d like to thank everyone for dropping by our booth and making this gamescom 2017 a success. We had a great time and can’t wait to reveal more about our upcoming games.
