Nine Worlds Studios to work on Tropico 7

Kalypso Media Group today officially announced that a brand-new development studio explicitly tasked with producing the PC and next-generation console sequel to the Tropico strategy series has begun its preparations to work on the well-known franchise. Nine Worlds Studios is named after the nine worlds of Norse mythology – symbolising the team’s ambition to create new worlds. This symbolism is also reflected in the logo.

Thomas Schneider, previously in a similar position at Aesir Interactive, was hired to set up the studio on site and later as project manager. Nine Worlds Studios is the second Kalypso-owned studio in the tech hub of Munich, Bavaria, alongside the well-known Realmforge Studios (developer of the Dungeons series). The studios share the attractive location with many housing options and transport connections to create workflow synergies between them. The addition of Nine Worlds Studios represents the fifth development studio within the Kalypso Media group of companies.

Simon Hellwig, Managing Director of Kalypso Media Group, said: “We are pleased to announce the establishment of our second studio in Munich. This allows us to use already existing infrastructures between our two studios. We are confident in our ability to ramp up the studio to full size by early next year to start production of Tropico 7.”

Dr. Anika Thun, Managing Director of Kalypso, added: “Due to the fantastic experience we have had with the city of Munich and the general promotion of video games in Bavaria, it was a logical decision to expand in this region. We are now looking for talented team members who want to work on the latest instalment of the cult classic series. Candidates with experience in Unreal Engine programming, Unreal Engine technical art, game, level, narrative and mission design, as well as UI/UX, VFX artists, animation specialists and 3D generalists, who are ideally also familiar with the Unreal Engine, are encouraged to apply and join us in Munich.”

Thomas Schneider, Project Manager said: “As Kalypso’s fourth developer studio in Germany, Nine Worlds can draw on a wealth of experience as well as a reliable network, while at the same time becoming part of an environment in which all sides are passionate and actively involved in the development of international brands. I am very pleased to be working with such a strong and renowned company to establish the ambitious Nine Worlds Studios in such a renowned games location as Bavaria.”

Recruitment for the new studio is underway, with vacancies advertised on relevant job boards as well as on the Kalypso Media website.
