What is Tortuga – A Pirate’s Tale?
Tortuga – A Pirate’s Tale tells the story of your journey as a pirate captain in command of a fleet of pirate ships in the Caribbean, driven by greed for gold and glory and ready to strike fear upon the seas. On your journey, raid trade convoys, upgrade your ships and, of course, always keep an eye on the morale of your crew. In the process, try to convince other pirate captains to join your fleet – all with their own ships and individual skills to be used tactically.
But booty is not everything and only with an impeccable captain’s reputation will you succeed in becoming the most feared pirate of the Caribbean!
What are the core features of Tortuga – A Pirate’s Tale?
Become the pirate of all pirates
You aren’t just born a great pirate, but we will give you the tools to become THE greatest pirate. Create your own flag under which your fleet will sail. The more experience you gain, the more famous you become and the greater your skills become. Take on the role of a pirate and juggle more than 35 different skills on your way to the pirate throne.
Raids and sailing trips in the Caribbean
The 17th century Caribbean is dominated by the four colonial powers of the Old World. It is not your fault that you are a pirate but see it simply as your responsibility! Take action to relieve the Spanish, Dutch, French and English colonies of the burden of wealth. But be on your guard! If you are not sure that you are the biggest fish in the sea, you should not move too soon or too far from your familiar home port.
Fight tactical naval battles
A ship is safe in a harbour, but that’s not what ships were built for. Fight in tactical, turn-based naval battles on a hexagonal grid. Use skill and wit when raiding a convoy or settlement. Only a clever combination of your ships’ different armaments paired with the changing and harsh conditions of the sea will determine victory.
Improve your fleet
It’s up to you to maintain and care for an impressive fleet before facing the hail of cannons from the mighty warships that lurk on the seas. Combining different upgrades for your ships, such as weapons, hull, mast or figurehead, allows you to create more than 360 unique ship variations.
Meet the needs of your crew
As the elected captain of the ship, it is your task to share the booty and wealth fairly with your crew. Agreements made in a caper contract will clearly define the objectives before leaving port. Remember that whispers of mutiny below deck can lead to a nasty outcome. After all, you are not captain by the grace of God, but by the choice of your crew.
Parley with infamous pirate legends
On your way to becoming the most fearsome and glorious pirate captain, you will have the opportunity to meet several historical pirates. Be careful, choose your enemies and companions wisely…
Command historic ships
Take command of 18 unique ship types: from the small sloop, to the frigate, to the heavily armed war galleon!
How does the morality system work?
During your journey through the Caribbean, you should always keep an eye on the morale of your crew and captains. Nothing is less useful on the high seas than bad-tempered pirates who end up questioning their captain.
- In the “Personal Log” you can not only see your personal statistics, but also what your team thinks of you as captain.
- Under “Captains” you can invest skill points in the talents of your hired captains, and also learn something about their personal likes and dislikes. Tip: Make sure that your captains have similar characteristics to prevent loose morals or even a mutiny.
- In the tavern of a town, you can divide the booty among your crew, which you should do regularly to keep them happy. Depending on the amount of booty, the morale of the team increases, so don’t be too petty when dividing it up. In the worst case, you will eventually be forced to divide the booty, otherwise the crew will turn against you.
- You should always keep in mind the goals set in the caper contract. Failure to meet them will have consequences for the morale of your crew.
